Economic of power generation 5
Question =Estimate the generating cost per kWh delivered from a generating station from the following data :
» F = fixed charge , R = running charge ,
Plant capacity = 50 MW , annual load factor = 40% , capital cost (F) = 1.2 crores , annual cost of wages , taxation etc (F) = RS 4 lakhs , Cost of fuel , lubrication , maintenance etc (R) = 1 paise/kWh generated . Interest 5% per annum (F) per annum , depreciation 6% per annum of initial value .
Solution = is given ,
» maximum demand and plant capacity = 50 MW , or 50 × 10³ kWh , • capital cost = 1.2 crores , or 120 × 10⁵ , • annual cost of wages , taxation etc (F) = RS 4 lakhs or RS 4 × 10⁵ , • convert % to point = 5% = 0.05 , 6% = 0.06 , • L F. = 40 % = 0.4 , • 1 paise = 1÷ 100 = 0.01 RS ,
» cost per unit = total annual charges ÷ unit generated per annum ,
» Total annual charges = cost of fuel , lubrication etc (R) + total annual fixed charges ,
» cost of fuel , lubrication etc (R) = unit generated per annum × rate of cost of fuel , lubricantion etc (R) ,
» unit generated per annum = M.D × L.F. × Hours in a years , = 50 × 10³ kW × 0.4 × 8760 h = 1752 × 10⁵ kWh ,
» again , cost of fuel , lubrication etc = 1752 × 10⁵ × 0.01 = 17.52 ×10⁵ RS ,
» Total annual fixed charges = interest and depreciation + wages and taxation ,
» Interest and depreciation or annual fixed charges = capital cost × ( interest % + depreciation % ) /100 , = RS 120 × 10⁵ ×( 5 + 6 ) /100 , = after calculate = 13.2 ×10⁵ RS , AND
» wages and taxation = 4 × 10⁵ RS ,
» So , Total annual fixed charges = ( 13.2 ×10⁵ ) + ( 4 × 10⁵ ), = 17.2 × 10⁵ RS ,
» Total annual charges = ( 17.52 × 10⁵ ) + ( 17.2 × 10⁵ ) = RS 34.72 × 10⁵
» Cost per unit = 34.72 × 10⁵ ÷ 1752 × 10⁵ ,
» 0.02 RS , or ×100 = 2 paise , answer ✓
